Job Summary:

Henderson Young Men’s Christian Association, Inc., dba, Henderson Family YMCA, is seeking services from a Design-Build firm. The scope of the project generally includes redevelopment of a 10-acre YMCA campus with two existing buildings, 39,700 sq ft and 19,000 sq ft.  The project will include an analysis of the suitability of a new building construction, or a mix of new building construction and renovation of existing facilities. The indoor facility will generally house a natatorium, gymnasium, wellness center, group fitness studios, nursery, after school/summer day camp, teen programming, food preparation, changing areas, meeting, administrative, maintenance and support space.  Outdoor amenities will include a playground, activities field, quarter-mile walking track, pickleball courts, parking.

The YMCA intends to fund this project through the USDA Rural Development Community Facilities Direct Loan & Grant Program.

Professional services for this project will need to include funding application assistance, design, bidding, and construction administration.

Bus Driver (Part-time)

Staff position:  Bus Driver
FLSA status:  Non-exempt
Reports to:  Youth Program Director

Position Summary:
The bus driver will perform a safety check of his/her bus before traveling each day.  Responsible for maintaining the fuel in their bus and for being punctual.  Will follow their designated route and safely transport campers from school or to and from field trips to the Henderson Family YMCA. Delivers excellent service to all members, guests and program participants.

Essential Functions:

  • Bus drivers are required to run a specific bus route and pick up Y
    MCA after school campers and bring them to the Y

  • Permanent drivers need to be available for early release days and all school days
    M
    onday through Friday
  • Substitute drivers need to be available in the absence of permanent drivers
  • Daily responsibilities include a bus check of tires, gas and oil,  walking through the bus and checking for items left behind, locking the bus with the emergency brake engaged and returning keys to the key box
  • Drivers should sweep the bus no less than twice a week
  • Be aware of your surroundings and always be safety conscious
  • Know the Y

    CA character traits – Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Faith – and demonstrate them; discuss these with the campers when appropriate
  • Have respect for your co-workers and help one another – be sure to show the same respect to the children

Qualifications:

  • North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (Class B with passenger endorsement). Experience preferred but not required

Camp Counselor (Part-time)

Staff position:  Camp Counselor

Reports to:  Youth Program Director


Position Summary:
Organizes and implements high quality program(s) within the Youth Development Department.

Essential Functions:

  • Greet campers and parents with a smile.
  •  Assist with group activities, bathroom monitoring, changing for swim and swim time, snack time and lunch. Play and interact with campers and promote the YMCA character traits. 
  • Never assume complete control of a group.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and always be safety conscious.
  • Report any problems to a Team Leader or the Director.
  • Interact with the children during games, activities, and programs – remember to come down to their level.
  • Bring swimsuit every day.
  • Aid in cleaning up areas after all activities.
  • Be sure to supervise in the bathrooms always.
  • Set the example – be a role model.
  • Attend staff meetings and Family Night Activities.
  • Know the YMCA character traits – Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Faith – and demonstrate them; discuss these with the campers when appropriate.

Qualifications: 

Group Fitness Instructor (Part-time)

Staff position:  Group Instructor (Wellness/Fitness/Aquatics)
FLSA status:  Non-exempt
Reports to:  Health and Wellness Director


Position Summary:
Instruct group classes; provide excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead group classes to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals. 
  • Conduct energizing, fun, safe, and educational classes. 
  • Build effective relationships with members; help members connect with each other and the YMCA. 
  • Maintain working knowledge of class and trends to provide effective information and support to members. 
  • Keep accurate class attendance records. 
  • Keep up with time card 
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations. 
  • Dress in appropriate attire for class 
  • Responsible for ensuring the aerobics room is clean. Placing all equipment back in its place, and turning all lights off. 
  • Arrange a substitute when absent 
  • All instructors will be financially responsible for their initial certification. The YMCA may assist with renewal CEC's to keep their certification updated and active. All instructors will sign a non-compete contract should they seek financial assistance from the Y to maintain their certification. Those choosing to be financially independent regarding their certification will not have to sign a non-compete contract. 
  • All instructors will be expected to attend 2 mandatory staff meetings per year.

Qualifications: 

  • Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED
  • Certification in areas of expertise. 
  • Must have current driver’s license

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to conduct classes and activities relating to fitness. 
  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.

Position Summary:
The youth and adult sports assistant will maintain a positive attitude within the YMCA environment with co-workers, members and sport participants.

Essential Functions: 

  • Greet participants and direct them to the correct field or court. 
  • Set up for the specific sport 
  • Inside sports: set up volleyball courts with nets and water cooler, raise and lower goals for basketball, set up chairs and tables for teams, scorekeeper, referees and break it all down and put all equipment back in proper storage
  • Outside sports: paint field lines for soccer or t-ball. Set up goals for soccer and fencing for t-ball. Water coolers are used for all outdoor sports and placed at each set of bleachers. Pick up trash and put equipment (soccer balls and t-ball bags) back in proper storage 
  • The Sports Assistant must make sure that coaches have the equipment needed 
  • Must be available for the facilitation of youth sports and adult sports

Qualifications: 

  • Must be 16 years of age or older 
  • No experience required but knowledge of sports and rules would be helpful
  • Must be CPR certified and knowledgeable of first aid or pass certification class within 90 days of employment Youth and Adult Sports Assistant

Expectations: 

  • Be punctual-follow the staff schedule provided 
  • Avoid Absenteeism • Carry out responsibilities without having to be told what to do 
  • Be prepared to take over for a coach in case of an emergency 
  • Follow and adhere to the YMCA policies 
  • Be well groomed and dress neat in athletic wear (shorts should be below fingertips) and a YMCA shirt
